The explosion of the Deepwater Horizon oil rig in the Gulf of Mexico created one of the worst environmental tragedies in history. Teams of scientists and engineers have been on the scene to stop the oil spill, contain the oil, and support recovery and clean-up. NOAA has played a critical role since day one.
