Caleb M. Schutz - President Caleb is a nationally recognized thought-leader in K-12 education and passionate about helping students and teachers succeed in 21st-century classrooms. Soon after joining The JASON Project in 2005, Caleb led the initiative to bring the nonprofit under the stewardship of National Geographic Society, and forged an agreement with The George Washington University to host JASON on its northern Virginia campus and research its effectiveness. Knowing that all students can become self-motivated, he articulated JASON's new vision: a global community connecting students with "great explorers and great events" to provide positive role models and inspire and motivate them to pursue science and related careers. Today, students around the world use JASON's hands-on labs, computer games, videos and other multimedia to interact with leading scientists from NASA, NOAA, the U.S. Department of Energy, National Geographic and other institutions. His sweeping redesign of JASON's new curriculum line, released in 2007, has garnered multiple national awards for educational technology and the successful integration of digital and print content. As president of the MCI Foundation and founder and president of MarcoPolo Education Foundation, Caleb created and mobilized a national network of partners to launch an online curriculum and professional development program used by 1.5 million educators and students each month. MarcoPolo (now Thinkfinity) has been named repeatedly as the "best site to download free lessons and materials." Previously at IBM, Caleb reengineered the firm's philanthropic strategy with a special interest in educational technology, managed its Asia-Pacific contributions program and oversaw community relations. Caleb holds a Master of Business Administration from University of California, Los Angeles, and a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from University of California, Santa Cruz. He has served as a consultant to foundations, Fortune 500 corporations, and educational organizations and associations. |
