Wonder Women of STEM!

A Challenge for You!
Submit a video for one of our two challenges below (or both if you want!) and YOU could be part of the action during our live programs:
Challenge #1:
Christi Corbett is dedicated to motivating more girls to pursue careers in science, technology, engineering and math (STEM). But many students don't think much about what scientists and engineers actually do.
We want to hear from all of you out there, boys and girls: Can you picture yourself in a STEM career? What kind of scientist or engineer would you be? What kind of problems would you want to try to solve?
Challenge #2:
Lisa Lord's work in cyber security helps protect our critical infrastructure from all sorts of "bad guys" who might want to wreak havoc on the things we rely on to keep our nation running normally every day. Things like power plants, dams and hydroelectric facilities, railways, bridges, fuel depots, chemical plants, refineries, airports, banks and financial centers, electric power substations, government offices, water supply facilities, emergency response communications, traffic control and evacuation plans -- they all rely on information technology, and are susceptible to cyber attack!
As a future Cyber Warrior, tell us what infrastructure you would try to protect, and how you would do it. Send your videos to JASON by April 20. Videos should be 45 seconds or less and can be submitted using the online question submission tool at the bottom of this page. We can't wait to see what you come up with!
Join The JASON Project and the American Association of University Women (AAUW) for a day of live webcasts featuring two women who exemplify excellence in "STEM"—science, technology, engineering and math. Our featured guests are Christianne Corbett and Lisa Lord.
Christianne Corbett (10am and 2pm ET)
Christi earned a degree in engineering and became an aerospace engineer. Her passion to help more girls and women enter into engineering led to her accepting her current position as Senior Researcher at AAUW, where she co-authored the highly acclaimed research report "Why So Few? Women in Science, Technology, Engineering and Math." She will share her personal experiences as an engineer, and her research findings which are critical for anyone currently in, or considering, a career in engineering.
Lisa Lord (12pm and 4pm ET)
Lisa, a Cyber Information Assurance Analyst with Northrop Grumman, helps protect our nation's top secret information. Cyber Security is one of the fastest growing technical careers available today. Learn how Lisa's unexpected educational and professional path has made her a highly valued expert in this exciting industry.
About the Live Event
Tune in on April 26th for any of the day's four live webcasts at 10am, 12pm, 2pm and 4pm Eastern. You can also join us for a special viewing opportunity during the 10am and 12pm programs at the Jack Morton Auditorium in the Media and Public Relations Building at George Washington University in Washington, DC.
On Thursday, April 26, JASON will broadcast four live shows, lasting approximately 45 minutes each. During the shows you'll learn about the featured expert(s), and have the chance to submit text questions and answer interactive polls. In addition, you can submit video questions before the event. Schools submitting video questions increase the odds of their questions being used during the event.
Video Question Submission Guidelines
Video question submissions will remain open until 7pm ET on April 20
Make sure your video question relates to the featured expert(s) and their work.
Ensure that your video is well-lit and the audio is free of background noise. Consider using a microphone if the student is far from the camera.
Please record only one question per video clip. You can submit as many as you like!
Students should state their first name only, the state or country they are from, and their question
Unfortunately we cannot use all the video questions we receive. The more creative and interesting you are, the better your chances of being selected!
Each student submitting a video question must also fax in a permission form with a parent or guardian's signature. Download student permission form.
