Maria, from Monterrey, Mexico is a very involved student. She participates in the biology and green clubs at school where she explores her interest in science. She is fascinated by human systems and ecology and wonders what the future will hold for humans: our ability to cure disease and deal with ecological challenges to the planet. She thinks of the many generations that will have to deal with the choices our society makes today.

Besides her interest in science, Maria is also very involved in other extracurricular activities. She loves playing basketball and being on stage. She even was in a local production of the musical Annie, as Annie! She is also in a program called Cedena, which is very similar to Girl Scouts. She mentions that she has enjoyed learning Morse Code, tying knots, and first aid.
