Weird and Wacky Science: Scientists Take Aim at Creating Pea-Sized Sun!

Scientists have long been trying to control fusion to make it useful in electricity generation. While some scientists are trying to confine the fusion reaction within a magnetic field, researchers at the National Ignition Facility (NIF) in Livermore, California are taking a different approach. The NIF scientists are trying to direct a laser beam at a pea-sized chamber in order to create fusion. The goal is to reach "ignition," where the fusion is self-sustaining. Once this is obtained the next step would be generating electricity.
