Student Argonaut,
South Riding, VA

Toba's career goal is to be a scientist and inventor, and he is thinking about focusing on fusion technology. He wants to work on ways that fusion can be used safely to produce energy. He is an exceptional student, taking Trigonometry and Algebra II in 9th grade. His teacher says he is "Genuinely interested in science and is one of the most curious students I have had. He is constantly asking 'Why' and 'What if?'" Toba enjoys astronomy, physics and chemistry, and was in the all-district and all-region chorus. Toba's open and caring personality make him a wonderful asset to any team.

In His Own Words

On Hanging in the Nationals' New Baseball Stadium

Today I got a tour of the Nationals' new ballpark. It was so interesting and such a privilege. We learned how efficient the energy was to run the place. It's the first certified green stadium in the country. We had so many questions that we ran out of time and we didn't get them all answered. We toured everything, even the dugout! I got put my fingerprints in all of the places I would never go in again like the Nationals' dugout. That was the best!

Later in the day, I got to go to my first baseball game! I watch baseball every once in a while but I have never gone to a game. It was great. The fun part was being there with my new good friends and watching the game without having the players look like sticks because they're so far away.

On Visiting the Furnace of a Coal Plant

I went to the coal plant, and we got an introduction to how most of the coal plants work. The best part for me was going into the plant at the hottest parts where it was over one-hundred degrees. I still didn't take off my fleece! We had to wear all kinds of safety equipment, like goggles, gloves, earplugs, and hardhats! It was so loud that we talked to one another through headsets with tiny little ear plugs. I've never been so hot in my life and I was excited to be back outside where the air felt cool.
