Redwood Trees

About 25 million years ago, the giant redwood trees flourished throughout North America, Greenland, Europe, and Asia. Global changes in climate fragmented and reduced their range to a thin strip of coastal habitat in Northern California and Oregon and a small patch in central China. The oldest known tree was more than 2,200 years old. The tallest was recorded by the National Geographic Society in 1963. Called "Tall Tree," it measured 112 m (367 ft).
