Have students compare and contrast the collection of weather data used for forecasting and the collection of similar data used to research meteorological events. Ask questions such as: “Can weather data be used for both purposes? What makes atmospheric data most useful for forecasting weather? What makes atmospheric data most useful for research purposes?”

    Predicting Severe Weather Field Assignment

Instructions: Have students explore the techniques and applications for predicting monster weather by completing the Field Assignment: Predicting Severe Weather. This assignment will extend beyond the time allotted for a standard period, so make sure student review the lab procedures the night before. Plan ahead to facilitate students uncovering of appropriate resources. Follow all instructions in the teacher’s edition.
