As an eighth-grade teacher at Urban Middle School in Sheboygan, Wisconsin, Nara has integrated JASON into her classroom for the past 10 years. Nara has conducted several experiments and research studies throughout her long career. Participating in the Great Lakes WATER Institute Aquanaut Program gave Nara the opportunity to study the invasive species of Lake Michigan. Nominated by her colleagues and supervisors, Nara is a recipient of the Milwaukee Public Schools Excellence in Teaching award, the Wisconsin Society of Science Teachers award, and the Wisconsin Elementary and Middle Level Science Teachers' Distinguished Teaching Award.

As an accomplished SCUBA diver, Nara has had extensive aquatic ecology field experiences throughout Wisconsin. Nara is excited about the opportunity to participate in the Disappearing Wetlands Expedition to expand upon her experiences with data collection and experimentation out in the field.
