Modified Mercalli Intensity Scale and Moment-Magnitude Scale

This image shows the Modified Mercalli Intensity scale and the moment magnitude scale side by side. The moment-magnitude scale is based on a logarithm of the wave amplitude recorded by seismographs. The Modified Mercalli Intensity scale is based upon observation and reports of shaking and damage done to structures.
